Finally I get to try one of the new inks from Birmingham Pen Co. Their inks used to be made in Germany and bottled in the USA. They are now manufactured and bottled by the Birmingham Pen Co. in the USA. Three inks have been released, all are blue. I recently received a bottle of Shippingport Atomic Power Station – electron.

I am pleased to see that the Birmingham Pen Co have started to list some of their new in-house manufactured inks as I am so looking forward to trying them. Todays ink is from previous stock having been manufactured in Germany and bottled in the USA. The plan is to recreate all the inks in the USA. In previous reviews I have described the packaging and pricing, the new inks are priced at $US9 for 30ml and $US14 for 60ml.
NB an update to this review was posted 10/04/2021 To celebrate Kingdom Notes 5th anniversary in 2014 Sailor produced some bespoke inks for them. There were three series of five inks each. Birds of Japan, insects of Japan and Mushrooms of Japan. Unfortunately Kingdom note do not ship overseas, they can occasionally be found at exorbitant prices on ebay or you can buy using a proxy. If you can buy the ink in Japan it retails for $US18.50. I was lucky enough to be generously gifted some samples of some Kingdom Notes inks that I had coveted for some time.
It has been awhile since I have reviewed a Birmingham Pen Co ink. I am still loking forward to their US based production of inks to become available. This ink is a blue-black which is not a colour I usually favour but it was what I selected when I got to choose a free ink to go with a pen I purchased.
Jurojin is another of the Pilot 100th anniversary Iroshizuku inks. Seven anniversary inks were released each named after one of the seven Japanese gods of luck and good fortune. Background to these gods is in my review of Fukurokuju.
Another Diamine exclusive from Seitz-Kreuznach in Germany. They carry a number of Diamine German exclusive inks of which many are available elsewhere such as the guitar inks. They have however, two inks exclusive to them Bloody Absinth and this, Bloody Brexit.
Quick note – Seitz-Kreuznach carry many inks including their own brand and any purchase over 25euro = free international shipping. Mont Blanc have released four inks in the Petit Prince range. Some might argue only three, this ink, sand of the desert (brown) and the recently released Petit Prince and planet (rose burgundy). I say four as I include the Homage to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Encre du Desert ink as de Saint-Exupéry wrote Le Petit Prince.
I was given this ink when I bought my first Mont Blanc pen. I was offered a bottle of any ink I would like and in those days I played it safe so chose this as I thought it would be useful. I haven’t used it since I got it and then again today. Royal blue is one of the standard Mont Blanc inks.
This is the first Diamine shimmer ink I bought, I was disappointed with it as the blue was darker than expected and I didn’t think it shimmered enough. Having said that I bought this colour because it was my first shimmer ink and it I didn't want something 'too out there'. I ended up hardly using it but then again I am not a big fan of blue inks. Doing this review I have a new respect for it.
Smoke on the water is a Diamine German exclusive and a very famous Deep Purple track. Calling this ink exclusive is a misnomer. The German Diamine inks were commissioned by SC Lucht the German distributor, they are exclusive to this company but any German retailer they supply can sell the inks anywhere they like. Hence many have purchased the the ‘German exclusive’ inks from German online retailers as I did.
